Congratulations to our star trainee nursing associate Jade Smith, who was recently nominated for the Health and Public Service Apprentice of the Year award as part of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeships Awards 2022.
Jade began her career as a GP receptionist in September 2017 and, following half a decade of training, she is on track to become a fully qualified nursing associate.
“I have always had a passion for working within the healthcare setting. Working in my roles as a receptionist, phlebotomist and healthcare assistant was fantastic but my heart and passion was to progress further.”
After discussing her ambitions with higher nursing management, she was approached to apply for a number of courses – funded by The Practice St Albans and supported by colleagues.
“These opportunities were incredible for me. I felt like such an important part of the team, and always supported with everything I was doing.”
In early 2021, Jade was offered the chance to become a trainee nursing associate and the opportunity to study at the University of Sheffield.
“This was my dream come true! The support I received to get into the university was above and beyond, and I am forever grateful for this. The training and support since starting my course has been amazing.”
Following her success, Jade was shortlisted for the final five for the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Healthcare ‘Apprentice of the Year award, with nominees from several universities across many fields of healthcare.
“This is my journey, I never thought I would be where I am now from a receptionist. When you want something you must believe in yourself and work for it. I am so proud of my recognition certificate – I may not have won but being recognised makes me a winner in my eyes. Thank you to all of the staff at the Practice St. Albans and also the nursing management for their support and guidance. I look forward to many more years working with the team.”
